St. Mary Magdalen Church Expansion June 12, 2005 BUILDING
GOD’S HOUSE IN OUR TIME
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE Now is the time to fulfill your pledges or make one, so that we can fulfill our parish commitment to BUILD GOD’S HOUSE IN OUR TIME. At first, I thought that building a new church would be like having a baby. In nine months, we would see the results of our sacrifices. Yet, I learned quickly and still growing in patience, that like many of you who are raising teenagers, you just have to keep praying and sacrificing, grow in understanding and collaboration, as we stand in awe and wonder as a child matures into a responsible adult. We thank all who participated in the meetings and we pray that all who shared concerns or opposition to the plan will reconcile and add their time and talents for the glory of God and the good of the parish family. I am especially grateful to our Building Committee and Interior Design Committee who are offering their time and talents to work with our architect, Bill Murphy. STAINED GLASS WINDOWS FROM 1898 With the sad closing of three parishes in Philadelphia, I have requested the stained glass windows from St. Aloysius Parish (26th and Tasker) for our new church. You can see photographs in the vestibule. Our present stained windows will go in the new chapel along with our altar, tabernacle, Stations of the Cross, and statues of St. Joseph and Mary. Click here to view the St. Aloysius Stained Glass Windows Gallery. The green container in our parking lot contains the three altars and statues of the BVM and child, Sacred Heart and St. Joseph. They are all Carrara Marble. We are so blessed to obtain these spiritual treasures to enrich our worship. I am thankful to the Interior Design Committee for visiting other churches so that we can learn from them. OUR BUILDING COMMITTEE is negotiating a formal contract with our architect Bill Murphy. His firm plans to have final designs and drawings at the end of August. We hope to go to bids sometime in the fall. If anyone is interested in bidding or becoming a sub contractor, contact Tony Antonello at the rectory. The
project costs have increased about 15% since we began two years
ago and we added over $600,000.00 for additional parking and
water run off management. I
will be sending all the facts and figures to you as soon as I meet with
the pastoral council and finance committee this Thursday, June 16th
at 7:30 PM in the St. Katharine Drexel Room. Capital
Campaign gifts have raised $3,570,295.12 in pledges of which $1,958,901.76
