Saturday of the Second Week in Ordinary Time
Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children
2 Samuel 1:1-4, 11-12, 19, 23-27, Psalm 80:2-3, 5-7, & Mark 3:20-21
'If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.'
Have you ever been in a situation when a family member disapproved of what you were doing? I suspect that most, if not all of us, have had this experience, which is often true when we are young and ambitious. When we are young and idealistic, we may believe that we can conquer the world. Perhaps, as we read in today's Gospel narrative, we recognize Jesus' family members' concern for Him, and it is likely they did not want Him to be disappointed with Himself and His efforts.
However, perhaps they had not wholly grasped that Jesus would change the world—not just for those of His day but also for people from that day forth. Imagine how our world would be different if Jesus had not followed His call. I suspect that our world would have even more challenges than it does today.
Friends, Jesus brought 'Good News' to us. In today's world, we need all the 'Good News' we can get. Primarily, the 'Good News' is that Jesus loves us and is with us. Today, may we strive to bring the living message of Christ to every person we encounter. May we also notice those who bring us 'Good News' and thank God for their presence in our lives.
Question of the Day: How will you bring the 'Good News' of Jesus?
Prayer: "Open our hearts, O Lord, to listen to the Words of Your Son. Alleluia, alleluia."
