Thursday of the Seventh Week in Ordinary Time
James 5:1-6, Psalm 49:14-15, 15-16, 17-18, 19-20, & Mark 9:41-50
In today's Gospel passage, Jesus uses words and images that are graphic, intimidating, and perhaps even frightening. He wants His disciples to understand that their choices every day of their lives will determine their future. Their choices will affect their happiness and peace in this world and determine what will happen after they die.
Friends, today is a good day for us to stop and reflect on our choices. Do we ask ourselves if our choices only involve what is good for us, as individuals, or are we concerned about others and the world?
Tonight, I invite you to sit down and reflect on your day. What were the choices you made this day—exemplary and harmful? Did you attend to the needs of others, or were you completely self-focused? What "gifts" did you receive today, and are you thankful for them?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, "gift" me with wisdom, so I always know and accomplish what is good for my salvation. Amen.
